Community Health Worker Training Program

We recognize the role that community health workers play in clinical, public health, and social systems and support the development of the community health workforce through education, professional development, and advocacy.

Overview

Our Community Health Worker Training Program offers training and assistance to new and experienced community health workers across Arkansas.

As part of our program, partnering employers co-sponsor new community health workers as field placement trainees or apprentices. Trainees are required to complete 160 hours of tailored education and one year of on-the-job training with their registered field placement site.

Program Details

160 hours of Classroom Education:

  • 80 hours of initial coursework in a two-week class, provided both in-person and through telelearning from your work-site
  • 80 hours of continued education to be completed over the 12-month training period

Learn While You Earn:

  • 2,000 hours (one year) of on-the-job training
  • Trainee’s full salary to be covered by employer

Training costs are covered by the Community Health Worker Training and Apprenticeship Program.

  • Includes tuition, technology costs, and lodging for in-person training

A mentor from the Community Health Worker Training and Apprenticeship Program will be assigned to each community health worker trainee to support them in their position.

Wrap-around services may be provided to assist trainees.
